John Duffy
Elgin Community College

John Duffy is ECC’s most senior trustee, having served longer than any board member in the history of the college. First elected in 1975, he has served on virtually every board committee and held every board office, including four terms as chair during the 1980s and four consecutive terms as chair from 1997 to 2001.

Duffy was named the Association of Community College Trustees’ Outstanding Trustee in the Central Region in 1991 and again in June 2002. In 1992-93 he was elected Central Region chair.

From 1983-89 he served on the ACCT Board of Directors, where he also chaired the ACCT/American Association of Community and Junior College’s Joint Commission on Federal Relations. Duffy was a member of the AACC Board of Directors and the ACCT/AACC Joint Commission on Federal Relations from 1990-93.

At the state level, Duffy has been ECC’s representative or alternate to ICCTA throughout his years as a trustee. In addition to numerous committee assignments, he has chaired the association’s Federal Relations Committee seven times and served on the Executive Committee nine times. A retired high school teacher and administrator, Duffy resides in Elgin with his wife Anne.
