John Hoagland
Danville Area Community College

Biology instructor John Hoagland has devoted his life to learning and teaching science.

For more than 34 years, he has motivated his students to expand their horizons and explore all facets of a course, used a hands-on approach, and made sure students experience real science.

Outside class, he furthers students’ learning through weekend field trips, individual tutorials, and special help.

An ethically strong and positive role model, Hoagland mentors new faculty and students.

Hoagland founded the Illinois Association of Community College Biologists and is active in the Illinois Education Association.

In 2000, he received Danville Area Community College's Faculty of the Year Award. In 2001, he received the Association of Community College Trustees' Central Region Faculty of the Year Award and the ACCT National William H. Meardy Faculty of the Year Award.
