Carlisle SynTech Inc.
Nominated by Kaskaskia College

Since 1992, Carlisle SynTec has partnered with Kaskaskia College to provide leadership and computer-skills classes to nearly 40 percent of its workforce.

The company pays up to 90 percent of the cost of tuition and fees for eligible employees, who can upgrade their skills on the job while earning an associate degree from their local community college.

In addition, Carlisle SynTec has opened its Industrial Maintenance certification program to other local businesses who might not have the employee base or on-site training facilities available.

"Working together has provided a win-win situation," says plant manager Andy Furman.


DaimlerChrysler Motors Company
Nominated by Moraine Valley Community College

Since 1999, Moraine Valley Community College has been the only Illinois school (out of 31 colleges nationwide) to offer DaimlerChrysler Motors Company's innovative College Automotive Program.

CAP provides Chicago-area dealerships with trained entry-level auto technicians. Students must complete 1,280 internship hours with a mentor technician.

The CAP program's reputation is so high that enrollment in MVCC's automotive technology courses have more than doubled.

"Since coming on-board in late 1999, Moraine Valley has worked to make their program very successful, and we look forward to building upon our current relationship," says Michael Collins of the DaimlerChrysler Academy.
